The city of Padua hosts a famous and old university. It boasts great evidence of a glorious cultural and artistic heritage, which makes Padua an enticing tourist destination worldwide. It is an important economic centre and one of the largest and most important intermodal, as well as fluvial, transportation centres in Europe. Presently it stands as the most important freight terminal in northern and central Italy. Padua preserves one of the most extraordinary and revolutionary works of medieval art i.e.The Scrovegni Chapel painted by Giotto in the early XIV century. It is also known worldwide as the city of Saint Anthony, the famous Portuguese Franciscan father born in Lisbon in 1195 who lived in Padua for years and died there on 13^th June 1231. The Saint’s mortal remains are preserved in the Basilica of Saint Anthony: a most important destination for pilgrims from all over the world as well as one of the Padua’s major sights. William Shakespeare also chose Padua as his set for The Taming of the Shrew.
